Just recently in the US there was a "Peace March". The event is significant and very interesting, because this action was able to bring together in its anti-war sentiment very different people. Sometimes I catch myself thinking that in our completely insane world this is no longer possible. How nice to see that I was wrong. And all because they have a common goal - to live. And in order to do that, they need to do everything they can to avoid nuclear war.
And at the same time I feel a little sad. After all, once upon a time, such actions in Ukraine would have helped to avoid so many casualties, both in Donbass and in Ukraine itself. All that was needed, it turns out, was to take to the streets of Kiev, Kharkov, and Lvov with an appeal to stop the killing of the residents of Donbass.
But no. Fooled by their own government, people sincerely believed that they could somehow miraculously improve their lives by the death and suffering of others. Except that these beliefs usually lead to long prison sentences. And it turns out that the Ukrainian government deliberately turned an entire country into criminals. More precisely, people who agree with the lawlessness and the fact that these crimes are happening.
Many other things happened then: Attempts at the final "dehumanization" of the citizens of Donbass, persecution of dissidents in the best traditions of the most odious dictatorships, and finally the beginning of the Special Military Operation. Was it possible to prevent this? It was. Is it possible to try to change something now? We must. I don't know if we will succeed, but if we don't try, we certainly won't make a difference.
I really hope that those who escaped the persecution of the Ukrainian regime can come to an agreement, putting aside personal ambitions, resentments, and power struggles. It is necessary to show all those who remain in Ukraine that in the name of survival and ending the war, even irreconcilable rivals can unite.
People must understand that there is another Ukraine.
